Have you always wanted to make your own fermented food products, but not quite sure how to get started at home? Traditional cultures have been fermenting foods for centuries: as a method to preserve food and based on their understanding of how cultured foods improve gut health. Join us for a hands-on fermenting workshop at where you will learn just how easy it really is!

Wholefoods cooking class instructor Andrea Ball from The Green Gourmet will take you through everything you need to know to make ferments in your own kitchen, including Andrea’s colourful take on a classic sauerkraut, mixed fermented vegetables and a delicious fermented salsa to enjoy in the warmer months. She will even demonstrate how quick and easy it is to ferment your own crème fraîche at home.

This class will include informative discussions with Andrea about all things fermented, hands-on sessions to make your own jar of all listed above, recipes and guidelines to take home, all the equipment needed, and a delicious selection of different fermented foods to nibble on throughout the night. And, of course, you’ll get to take your fabulous ferments home with you!


ABOUT ANDREA BALL

Through her company, The Green Gourmet, Andrea has been teaching and writing about cooking with wholefoods for over 25 years. 

Growing up in Thailand, Andrea was inspired by the Buddhist vegetarians she met: their deep respect for the earth, their bodies and all living beings — and the deliciously nourishing food they created.

Andrea believes that good health and happiness begin in the kitchen and is passionate about teaching those around her all about the fabulous food you can create when you let fresh, local, seasonal produce take centre-stage.

Andrea has taught fermenting classes for a number of years through local food organisations such as Slow Food South Australia, as well as at luxurious food retreats in Bali.

REFUNDS

Work-Shop requires 72 hours notice in writing prior to the class for a full refund or transfer. If you miss this window, earn some extra karma points and give your ticket to one of your buddies. Email learn@work-shop.com.au to organise a refund.

CANCELLATIONS

We’ll do our darndest to run all scheduled classes, however, let’s face it… sometimes shit happens! Most of our classes must have a minimum of 5 participants before we can put them on. In the event that a class is cancelled, students will be notified via text message or email and entitled to a full refund or credit.

Anyone partaking in any classes or coming to any events at Work-Shop or organised by Work-Shop must agree to these terms and conditions.

(Don’t worry, we’ll only these use to show others how much of a rad time you’re having through social media, newsletters, blogs, website and general Work-Shop promo material)

(From my mum who I purchase it for): I was brand new to fermenting but feel very confident now about starting my own ferments. Andrea and Taylor made it very accessible with clear and simple explanations that took away the mystery and any concerns that I had about food safety etc. I loved the format of the evening, tasting the ferments (with wine), ideas for using ferments along with simple recipes and lots of information about dos and donts. Huge variety of veges and spices provided to make our own unique ferments to take home. Timing of the evening in terms of discussion v activity was just right and Andrea and Taylor are totally charming. 100% recommended for anyone interested in creating their own ferments.
